When we return to the party, I see Ares leaning against the bar talking to Earl and Dolly. But there’s a tall, leggy bombshell standing next to him. And she’s standing very close. Her bare arms are pressed up against his, and her curvy hips tilt toward him seductively.

“And there’s Tawny-Ann, trying to get Ares’ attention again,” Cinnamon says. But she doesn’t say it bitchy. I’m starting to realize she doesn’t have a bitchy bone in her body. “You watch, he’ll untangle himself any minute.”

To his credit, Ares seems unaware of Tawny-Ann’s closeness. Or her attempts to gain his attention. Either that, or he’s not interested. But then she reaches up and runs a palm down his back and starts rubbing his lower back, and he’d have to be dead not to notice.

When she looks up at him, she bats her lashes and digs her teeth into her lips as she gives him serious come-fuck-me eyes, and I hate the pang of jealousy that hits the amygdala region of my brain.

An urge to pull her off him via her extensions makes my fingers twitch.

But Ares straightens, turns away from her, and starts to walk our way. He’s holding a glass of whiskey for me, his focus all on me.

And I can’t suppress the smile.

Beside me, Cinnamon lets out a little squeal and whispers in my ear, “Yep, just like I said… that boy is smack bang all yours, darlin’.”
